The Longest Day Ride - Summer Solstice

About this event

This is a 200-mile or 150-mile one-day flat ride!
The ride will begin and end in Delaware City ( Dolly Spanker's parking)

ARRIVE at 4 AM. We are WHEELS DOWN AT 4:30 AM.  Unless you live nearby, I highly recommend booking a room for the night before. I will be booking one after that too (I won't feel like driving home).

Start:
 Delaware City ( Dolly Spanker's parking)
4:00 AM

Cost:
The event is free, but we will ask to split the SAG stocking cost, gas, plus a nice tip for the driver.
Other costs include your hotel expenses and any purchases made at rest stops.

PREPARATION CHECKLIST

Training:

  1. At a minimum, you should have at least ridden a century before the ride if you plan to do the whole ride. Ideally, you want to have a 130 to 150-mile ride in.
    -Rest your legs a week before the ride. Your last long or hard ride should be at least 5 days before the event.
  2. Long training rides should be at an endurance pace. NOT a fast pace (you are training your body to be efficient over a long time)
  3. Use any foods, salts, supplements, chamois cream, etc., you plan to use during training
  4. Train with the equipment you plan to use (if you notice during your long rides that something isn't right (e.g., knee pain), get it sorted before the event.
  5. Check this website for Longest Day training rides.

Coordination:

  1. Notify the ride leader of any special medical concerns
  2. Join the 2025 Longest Day WhatsApp chat. Use it to ask any questions.
  3. Please notify your Emergency Contact that you will be taking this ride and ask that they be available for a call in case of an emergency.
  4. Book the hotel for 2 days, before and after the ride (if interested)
  5. Ensure your bike is in excellent working condition with good tires. Now may be the time to put on new tires.
  6. Attended the pre-ride meeting (to be scheduled on the WhatsApp chat)
  7. Prepare a ride support bag for the SAG to carry.  Suggested items include
    • Special Food items or
    • Supplements/Salt/Meds
    • Extra gear - kit, socks,
    • Chamois cream
    • Wet wipes
    • Special tools
    • Phone charger

The Day before:

  1. Hydrate
  2. Eat well
  3. Drop off your ride support bag for the SAG
  4. Sleep early (try getting in the habit of sleeping early a week before the ride)
  5. Charge electronics (Phone, bike lights, computer, etc.)
  6. Set Alarm
  7. Set out your kit, ride support, and prep your bike so you can grab and go without thinking

SAG

The SAG support will begin around the halfway point in the ride. There are rest stops every 20 to 30 miles.

The SAG will have:

  • Tools
  • Pump
  • Cooler with Ice
    • Water
    • Cooling towels
    • Watery fruit
  • First Aid Kit
  • Sunscreen
  • Your support bag
